Delirium

This is indeed the first english fiction that i've read since i was born.
Pretty embarrassing right?
Well. Nevermind that.
At least i get a kick-start.
Never too late for anything in life, right?

It's written by a young American who just debut few years back with her bestselling .
There's a lucky draw for that bestselling book, coincidentally.
I haven't got any prize for my entire life.
Yet, i gave it a shot. I mailed the lucky draw form.
So, let's see how much the book likes me.

By fate or by chance, I bought this book.
I'm kinda interested with the front page of the book.
Not because of the adolescent's face that stares at everyone who looks at her.
But for the line below the title.
The contrast between the title and that particular line is obvious.
The title is far much bigger in font size.
BUT, if u look at it, even just a glimpse,
u certainly won't miss the chance to notice the statement below it.
Or, the question i shall put it.

"What if love were a disease?"

This, is what has attracted me.
Simple, brief, yet powerful sentence.

As a loving and loved creature, can anyone not be attracted?
No i guess.

Maybe this is my first english novel, I'm kinda obsessed with it.
That's why i actually consumed it within a week.
While reading the novel, I was as if entering a different world.
A world that belongs to Lauren Oliver, the author.
That kind of feeling is just inexplicable.
It just felt so great to continue reading, consuming.

The story is plotted in an imaginary world where love is forbidden.
The cure is made compulsory for everyone when they turn into 18.
Yes, the cure for love.
Good thing about the cure, the cured ones are free from feelings of sadness, sorrow, anger and
not infected by the disease that can cause death.
The disease, Love.
Bad thing?
The cured ones become hardly humans. They hardly have feelings about anything.

Lena, the core character of the story, has been anticipating for the cure for a very long time.
She believes the cure is the only way that will make her safe.
Safe from any harm.
Safe from the disease.
Safe from love.
But, that doesn't last long.
One day, she meets her man, the saviour Alex.
And then,
she falls in love.
At the end, she would rather die than to live without love, without him.

"Love - the deadliest of all deadly things.
 It kills you both
 when you have it
 and
 when you don't. "

So true.
